Europeans and Native Americans had their first meeting in Vancouver in 1775.

The meeting didn’t have a long-lasting impact as more than half of the native population was wiped out by the outbreak of smallpox. The remaining people found an economic hub in terms of Fort Vancouver.

Hudson’s Bay Company formed it in 1824.French, Canadian, Scottish, and English people began to settle in this city, and it became the largest population center on the west coast of North America.

This incident forced the government to form an army base above Fort Vancouver in 1849. In 1857, the city was incorporated. During World War I, shipbuilding became the major occupation of the city. In 1917, an Interstate Bridge was constructed, which took Vancouver toward modernity. 

During World War II, shipbuilding activity saw a hike, which led to an increase in the population of this city. The city gained popularity with its shipyards and cheap hydroelectricity production from Bonneville Dam. 

When the attack on Pearl Harbour shook the USA, Henry Kaiser built another shipyard in the city. This helped Vancouver in attracting people from around the world and settling at this place. Since then, it has developed to be the fourth largest city in Washington.
